An exquisite inn surrounded by a garden that has been praised overseas. Enjoy the luxury of a relaxing space that has been loved by the Imperial Family.
Yumura Onsen, located in the northwest of Kofu, was discovered by Kobo Daishi 1,200 years ago. It was also a beloved hot spring for Takeda Shingen, and history books record that he came here to heal his wounds and fatigue from war. Tokiwa Hotel is a prestigious hotel with over 90 years of history. Its stately entrance hall has welcomed dignitaries from all walks of life, including members of the imperial family, its otherworldly Japanese gardens that have been loved by many writers and artists and continue to receive rave reviews from overseas, and its authentic hospitality that has been refined over the years all make the hotel worthy of the title "Kofu's Guest House," and have made its name widely known throughout the world.
The center of relaxation is undoubtedly the 10,000m2 Japanese garden. Along the corridor are detached buildings built in the traditional sukiya style, such as "Matsukaze" and "Kishotei," where Emperor Showa and the former Emperor stayed when they visited, and "Kokonoe," which is also used as a room for Go and Shogi matches. All eight rooms have open-air baths, and the single-story detached building has a free-flowing hot spring. Within the garden, chestnut trees planted by Prince Takamatsu, keyaki trees associated with the literary master Ibuse Masuji, and quince trees beloved by author Yamaguchi Hitomi all grow seasonally. There are a total of 39 guest rooms in the East Building, which overlooks the garden and the Southern Alps, and the West Building, which offers a distant view of Mount Fuji.
The open-air bath in the annex "Misaka" is designed like a stage. You can soak in the pure hot spring water.
A spacious bathing space filled with Shingen no Yu water Tokiwa-style kaiseki cuisine to be enjoyed with all five senses
The famous hot springs of Yumura are contained in an indoor bath made of black granite, an open-air bath with impressive waterfalls and huge rocks, an indoor bath decorated with red granite, and an open-air bath made of fragrant cypress. You can enjoy the two baths with different styles on a rotation system. The water temperature is just right, and it is also fun to take a long bath in the spacious indoor bath.
Dinner is a seasonal Tokiwa-style kaiseki meal that can only be enjoyed at a long-established inn, with the "Kagaribi no Zen" and "Kocho no Zen" dishes that can be enjoyed with all five senses. Along with excellent local ingredients such as the highest quality Koshu beef and the high-quality farmed brand fish "Fujinosuke," you can also enjoy raw bluefin tuna from the waters off Japan that is airlifted immediately after being landed.
Kaiseki cuisine presents the bountiful ingredients of the naturally rich Koshu region throughout the year.
Depending on the plan, dining options include the private dining area "Akebono" with 13 booths and 42 seats, and the modern private dining area "Sakura" with 26 booths and 102 seats, which opened in 2023. In the garden, you can also enjoy the "Penthouse Koshu" where you can taste the finest Koshu beef steak. For breakfast, you can enjoy a traditional inn breakfast in a relaxing atmosphere.
During your stay, be sure to take a stroll through the garden. This garden is consistently ranked highly in American Japanese garden information magazines. The natural colors you see are like a folding screen painting, and will captivate your soul.
The premium cuisine course, "Kagaribi no Zen," features Yamanashi brand "Koshu beef" served grilled on lava stones.
