The award is sponsored by the Tourism Economics Newspaper, which publishes the travel industry specialty newspaper "Weekly Tourism Economics Newspaper." The "Top 250 Hot Spring Travel Hotels" is held annually and is sponsored by eight organizations, including the Japan Tourism Agency, the Ministry of the Environment, and tourism-related organizations such as the Japan Ryokan & Hotel Association, the All Japan Ryokan & Hotel Association, the Japan Hot Springs Association, the Japan Association of Travel Agents, the All Nippon Travel Agents Association, the Japan Tourism Agency, the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), and the Japan Travel Bureau. The award is given to inns and hotels that have been selected a total of five times (per year) or more, in a valuable title that is awarded to them.
