It was Nakazato Kaizan's "Daibosatsu Toge" that made the name "Shirahone" widely known, and before long, with its secret hot spring feel, it was established as Shirahone Onsen. Before that, the place was called "Shirofune." The name remains in the inn's name. The hot spring has its source in the mountains between Mt. Norikura and Kamikochi, and its miraculous health benefits are still known to this day. It has a history of about 600 years. In the Edo period, it attracted many hot spring visitors, with the saying "if you bathe for three days, you won't catch a cold for three years." Due to the excellent amount of water and quality of the spring, it was designated as a "National Health Resort Hot Spring Area" in 1974. The spring quality is a natural hydrogen sulfide spring, known to be good for gastrointestinal ailments. It is a hot spring that is good for both bathing and drinking.
Enjoy two different types of hot springs: the open-air bath is a hydrogen sulfide spring, and the indoor bath is a hydrogen carbonate spring.
The open-air observation bath is where you can fully enjoy the hydrogen sulfide spring water. There, you will find a rock bath that seems to be protected by the mountains. The surroundings are completely silent, and the only sounds you can hear are the sound of the flowing water and the rustling of leaves. It is truly a hidden hot spring. It is especially beautiful in autumn, when the mountains are dyed in red leaves, and in the snowy scenery of midwinter, so it is also good to visit in different seasons. The inn also draws water from another spring, a bicarbonate spring, into the large, impressive windows of the large public bath for men and women, as well as into the family bath. It is also effective against poor circulation, making it the perfect hot spring to visit in the cold season. This is the only inn in Shirahone Onsen where you can enjoy two types of spring water.
The stylish exterior of this inn stands in the forest at an altitude of 1,400m, surrounded by untouched nature.
There are a variety of guest rooms, mainly Japanese-style, including a corner room that can accommodate 10 people. If you are looking for a modern atmosphere, the newly refurbished Western-style superior room is the perfect choice. It is 39 square meters in size and equipped with a Simmons double bed and semi-double bed, allowing you to relax comfortably. There are also standard twin rooms available.
A private sauna is also available, and the two adjoining Japanese-style corner rooms can accommodate up to 10 people.
Everyone who visits praises the custom-made cuisine. Each and every course is carefully crafted. You can enjoy the flavors of Shinshu, such as Shinshu salmon and trout raised in clear streams. Dishes made with hot spring water include "Shirofune hotpot with soy milk" and "Hot spring rice porridge croquette." These are exquisite delicacies that can only be enjoyed here. They also help to regulate the stomach. For breakfast, you can enjoy hot spring rice porridge. A hidden hot spring inn deep in the mountains. Just as the legend says, you'll want to stay for three days.
The hotel's specialty is the "Soy Milk Shirogane Nabe." This popular dish is packed with local delicacies such as Shinshu mushrooms and herb chicken. The soup is a secret recipe that is not shared with anyone outside the hotel.
