Travel through time, seasons and tastes in the "1,200-year-old hot spring village."
The famous mixed outdoor bath, beloved by Kenji Miyazawa, remains a social gathering place for hot spring baths to this day.
Iwate Prefecture is where Kenji Miyazawa named the world where nature and humans coexist in harmony "Ihatov" and envisioned it as an ideal place. Osawa Onsen, which has a deep connection to Kenji, has been weaving time for 1,200 years with nature, which can be said to be the cradle of the four seasons.
Sansuikaku is a Japanese-style inn with sophisticated modern architecture and various facilities. There are four types of guest rooms overlooking the mountain stream. The rooms, such as the "Peony Room" that reproduces the favorite room of Kotaro Takamura, and the two-room type with a cypress bath, are decorated with a refined Japanese atmosphere and create a tranquil and relaxing space.
Once you've unpacked your bags, it's time to head out for a long-awaited bathing experience. Sansuikaku's "Sansui no Yu" is available exclusively to guests staying at the hotel. The large bath, with its impressive high ceiling and large glass windows, is designed to feel spacious and open, allowing you to enjoy a comfortable time while gazing at the poetic colors of the mountains. The atmosphere of the open-air bath, enveloped in the breeze blowing across the river, is also exceptional. The other large bath is Toyosawa no Yu, a semi-open-air bath from which you can view the colors of the riverside. When the leaves turn from deep green to autumn, the glass doors are open, making it a semi-open-air bath, but in winter, when the snowy scenery is beautiful, it is partitioned off and becomes an indoor bath. Sansuikaku also has three private baths available for guests to use free of charge from 3pm to midnight and from 6am to 10am the following morning.
Enjoy the healing power of a free-flowing hot spring and an authentic banquet meal with seasonal flavors
Enjoy the self-catering hot springs inn with ties to Kenji. The famous mixed-gender open-air bath "Osawa no Yu," beloved by Kenji, awaits. Its appearance alongside the flow of the Toyosawa River offers a spectacular view and a sense of openness. The true pleasure of soaking in the free-flowing hot spring water is particularly striking. This is what a hot spring is all about! Beyond the steam rises a glimpse into the era when it was a bustling "social hot spring spot." Although it is a mixed-gender bath, there are designated bathing times for women, so you can enjoy the feeling of a hidden hot spring along with the women-only "Kawabe no Yu." The indoor bath "Yakushi no Yu," highly recommended by regular customers, has been renovated while retaining the tasteful retro tiles. You will be deeply soothed as you bathe in the baths while thinking about history.
Meals are made using the most delicious seasonal ingredients and are prepared with careful hand-crafting in a modern dining room or private banquet hall. This is the "Village of 1,200 Years of Hot Springs" where you can experience the four seasons. Here you will find the ideal hot spring that modern people yearn for.
You can also order A5-grade Iwate brand beef, Maezawa beef, cooked on a teppanyaki grill (fees apply).
