Okuhida Garden Hotel Yakedake offers a one-of-a-kind hot spring experience at the foot of Mt. Yakedake. The hot spring that gushes forth from four private springs on the premises is the only super deep water hot spring in Japan, "Uguisu no Yu." It is said that this is the only place in Okuhida where you can enjoy a spring that changes color to an emerald color. The amount of water is an amazing 1 ton per minute. The hot spring that gushes forth is a rare hot spring that was trapped in a layer of rock formed by the uplift of the seabed during the Devonian period about 360 million years ago. It is rich in vitamins and minerals, and contains about six times the usual amount of metasilicic acid, known as a moisturizing ingredient in nature, so it has an immeasurable effect on beautiful skin. The hotel has 12 types of baths filled with this abundant hot spring water. Of course, it is directly drawn from the source.
The most popular area is the mixed-bathing area, which features an open-air bath, a waterfall bath, and a cave bath called "Bakusendo." Married couples and other couples can enjoy the baths with peace of mind by wearing the free rental yuami (bath robes) when bathing. In the separate areas for men and women, you can freely explore the 1.20m deep standing bath, reclining bath, open-air cypress bath, rock bath, and indoor bath. Immersing yourself in the hot springs is the way to spend your time. After touring the baths, you can relax while looking out at the natural beauty of the Northern Alps. Relax in a calming Japanese-style room or a spacious Western-style room, and your mind will be drawn back to the hot springs.
Behind the "Takiyu" and "Tasaseyu" cascading water is the mixed bathing area "Bakusendo". You can enjoy the feeling of exploring.
Rock bath. The men's area is called "Nikko no Yu" and the women's area is called "Gekko no Yu." The sense of openness is irresistible.
Soft-shelled turtle, sturgeon, and eel raised in the hot spring... "Ogottsuo" that can only be tasted here
"Ogottsuo" is a Hida word meaning a feast, and for dinner you can enjoy a lavish meal of local seasonal ingredients around the elegant hearth. The inn is also proud of its cuisine, which uses super deep water from the hot spring. The spring water used in the popular "hot spring steamed dish" is also from the hot spring, and the soft-shelled turtle you enjoy in the hot pot is also raised there. It is extremely nutritious.
For bespoke meals, you can enjoy fresh caviar made from eggs of sturgeon raised in hot springs and underground waters. You won't find anywhere else in Japan that farms soft-shelled turtles, sturgeons, and even eels. The famous Hida beef is A4-grade brand beef with an individual identification number. You can enjoy the melt-in-your-mouth flavor of steaks and shabu-shabu. Your body and mind will be revitalized by the exceptional hot springs that can't be found anywhere else and the many blessings of Oku-Hida.
The inn's pride and joy is its specialty, "Hot Spring Steamed" which uses water from its own hot spring source. It's a dish you definitely want to try.
