A hot spring resort that creates a Hakone trip that soothes all five senses.
Sight, sound, smell, taste, touch. Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu presents the ultimate Hakone trip that awakens the five senses with conceptual facilities and unwavering hospitality. Although it has a short history since opening in April 2017, its reputation is growing year by year. Ten-yu is filled with moving and special moments called "celebratory stays."
Ten-yu is located at an altitude of 655m. The large bath on the 6th floor, "Ukigumo no Yu," is what attracts all visitors. As you immerse yourself in the hot spring, you can gaze upon the Hakone outer rim and the ever-changing sky. This "infinity hot spring" is one with the unobstructed, spectacular view, and you will feel a strange sensation as if you are floating in the sky. The expressions of nature that change from moment to moment are truly dramatic. On the 5th floor, there is the large bath "Kurumazawa no Yu," which overlooks the "Kurobo Falls." You can spend time listening to the murmuring of nature. At the outdoor bath "Hakone Kowakien Motoyu Mori no Yu," you can enjoy a leisurely bath tour of the garden open-air bath, reclining bath, jacuzzi, and more. The sodium chloride spring gently envelops the skin. The water warms the body from the inside out, so there is little worry about catching a cold after taking a bath.
One of Ten-yu's charms is that you can have the hot spring all to yourself. All 150 rooms are equipped with an open-air hot spring bath. There are two types of views: the "outer rim side" where you can enjoy Hakone's outer rim, and the "valley side" where you can look down on the famous valley garden. The rooms on the outer rim side have a sense of openness and overlook the outer rim of Hakone, including Mt. Myojogatake and Mt. Tonomine, where the Daimonji bonfire is held every August.
In the rooms facing the valley, you will be greeted by the glittering leaves of the trees and the sound of the river babbling in the valley. You will be able to spend a relaxing time alone, undisturbed by anyone, in a sense of oneness with nature that is difficult to feel in the city. Both rooms have a calming Japanese-Western style, and once you step out onto the balcony, you will be enveloped in an open world.
Standard rooms located on floors 2 to 8. You can enjoy the sunset from your room.
Tenyu's signature "Hakone Yusan" special guest rooms, each with its own open-air hot spring bath, are the Ten-yu place to choose from. There are six of these rooms, each with its own open-air hot spring bath, which are symbolic of Tenyu. The six rooms are themed on era and culture: Miyanoshita, Kowakudani, and Hakone Yumoto, while the other three are themed on nature and the four seasons: Sengokuhara, Lake Ashi, and Tsurezure. These high-quality spaces, each with a different concept based on a place name in Hakone, are imbued with Ten-yu's wish that by staying in all six rooms, you will feel like you have traveled around Hakone.
Enjoy delicious food while reminiscing about the Hakone of the past at the Nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Properties "Guest House" and "Soba Kihinkan"
Ten-yu is also full of the joys of food. Dining Hakone on the fifth floor serves creative cuisine that combines Japanese and Western cuisine with a free-spirited approach. The chef's attention to detail is evident in each and every dish. The aromas and sounds coming from the three central open kitchens stimulate the five senses. In addition to kaiseki cuisine, you can enjoy meals such as seafood bowls and desserts at the buffet in a new style of "Luxurious Special Kaiseki" to your heart's content. When spending time with a special someone, why not enjoy dinner at the Teppanyaki and Shabu-shabu Geihinkan, a nationally registered tangible cultural property? You can enjoy gourmet food in a charming space. The first floor is one of the few teppanyaki restaurants in Hakone. The chef cooks Matsusaka beef in front of you, and it goes without saying that it is freshly grilled and delicious. The second floor is a shabu-shabu restaurant. You can enjoy Matsusaka beef with homemade sauces, original Western-style broths, and Japanese-style broths.
After checking out, we recommend having lunch at the Nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Property "Soba Kihinkan." Enjoy a relaxing time in an atmosphere filled with Taisho-era romance. The signature dish is the "Hakone Yamazen," a popular set of tempura and soba. Soba Kihinkan is a building that could be said to be the roots of Fujita Kanko, which operates Ten-yu. The building and garden have been carefully preserved, and even now that it has been renovated as a soba restaurant, it still conveys the same atmosphere as it did 100 years ago.
Don't miss the extensive range of facilities that will add color to your stay. Enjoy the quaint Hakone Onsen Shrine, the famous Valley Garden, Ten-yu The Bar & Lounge where you can enjoy cocktails while watching the gardens illuminated at night, the 12m Ten-yu Terrace with a water basin that reflects the sky against the backdrop of the Hakone outer rim, and the foot baths with great views. The popular day-trip hot spring amusement park Hakone Kowakien Yunessun is also directly connected to the hotel. These facilities will help you create memories of your trip.
The three-sided glass dining room "Tsuki no Ma" of the "Soba Kihinkan" is a valuable building that is a registered tangible cultural property of Japan. This was formerly the main room, and is called "Tsuki no Ma" because it is the place in Hakone from which you can see the most beautiful moon. There are many other things to see, such as the art storehouse, and you can reminisce about the time when Hakone was a place where politicians, aristocrats, and business people flocked to.
The 12m long Ten-yu Terrace is a spacious terrace where the panoramic Hakone scenery is reflected in the black water basin. An overwhelming view awaits.
