Enjoy a relaxing time with the natural hot spring water and delicious cuisine at Rakuzan Rakusui.
Located in Atsumi Onsen with over 1,000 years of history, Bankokuya has been providing hospitality for over 300 years. The dignified appearance and the interior decorated casually with seasonal flowers, as well as the sense of security that comes with being surrounded by heartfelt hospitality, are things that only a long-established inn can provide.
The three suites on the top floor, each with an open-air bath fed directly from the source, offer a class-above stay. The Royal Suite and Premium Suite, which can accommodate 10 people and feature a 15-tatami main room, a 6-tatami side room, and a 10-tatami twin bedroom, are popular for their open-air baths that fill the windows and make you feel as if you are surrounded by nature. In 2021, four guest rooms were opened with open-air baths fed directly from the source, each with a ceramic bath made by Jinenkogama, a maker of Oishida ware in Yamagata Prefecture. The rooms are available in both Japanese modern and Japanese-style rooms. The ceramic baths in each of the four rooms are designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia, with the bathtub designed to represent the four seasons and scenic spots of Yamagata, allowing you to soak in the comfortable hot spring water. They are also particularly impressive.
A 12-tatami Japanese-style room with an open-air bath. You can enjoy a relaxing time while looking out at the surrounding countryside from the ceramic bath or from inside the room.
A large public bath filled with historical hot springs and an open-air garden bath. Kaiseki cuisine where you can enjoy seasonal ingredients from the sea, mountains, and rivers.
The large public baths where you can enjoy the hot springs to the fullest, enjoyed by writers such as Basho and Yosano Akiko, are the large baths "Rakuzan" and "Rakusui" which are alternated for men and women, and the charming open-air garden baths "Sakura-no-yu" and "Sato-no-yu". Rakuzan has an indoor silk bath that uses microscopic bubbles to eliminate waste and beautify the skin, and you can expect a double effect with the beneficial spring water. Rakusui is a bath so spacious that you will want to swim in it. You can enjoy the famous hot spring that has been loved throughout the ages with a generous heart. "Sakura-no-yu", which was renovated and reopened in 2023 in the garden, also has a new "barrel sauna" originating from Finland, where you can refresh yourself with a self-louver.
The large public bath and open-air garden bath are some of the largest in Shonai. Atsumi Onsen has thrived as a hot spring resort for over a thousand years. Many writers and artists have visited this famous, historic hot spring, and you can enjoy the natural hot spring water.
The theme of the meals is also "Rakuzan Rakusui." The basic kaiseki course at Wa Dining Fuyou is the "Bankokuya Seasonal Bankokuya," where you can enjoy seasonal ingredients from the sea, mountains, and rivers, but we also highly recommend the "Taste Comparison Kaiseki of Premium Steamed Yamagata Beef in Hot Springs and Live Abalone," and the "Bankokuya Gourmet Kaiseki," which offers a luxurious taste of seasonal special ingredients such as crab, Yamagata beef, and abalone. For breakfast, the popular "Taimeshi Breakfast," which uses a generous amount of locally caught red sea bream, is a triple-delicious treat. This inn has long been renowned for the deliciousness of its breakfasts, and it is no wonder. The impression of this inn's attentive hospitality continues even after you return home. Whether it's the hot springs, the rooms, or the fine food, Japanese inns are great after all.
The Japanese breakfast set menu includes a bowl of "Taimeshi" cooked in sea bream broth. Two bowls of fresh wild red sea bream and delicious Yamagata rice. A third bowl with plenty of broth and seasonings. You can enjoy the bliss of a full stomach.
