[No. 10] Check out the goods that will allow you to enjoy the Seven Inns
Nyuto Onsenkyo (Semboku City, Akita Prefecture) is located at the foot of Mount Nyuto in Towada-Hachimantai National Park. Seven inns are dotted in the beech forest, each with its own hot spring source and springing hot springs of various qualities. It is a highly popular place as a longed-for secret hot spring.
The seven inns in Nyuto Onsenkyo are Tsuru no Yu, Taenoyu, Kuroyu Onsen, Kaniba Onsen, Magoroku Onsen, Okama Onsen, and Kyukamura Nyuto Onsenkyo. The seven inns and seven baths are known as the "Seven Inns and Seven Baths," and they have been working together for many years to develop and brand the area.
If you come to the hot spring resort, you should definitely get your hands on the "Yu Meguri Chouchou" (2,500 yen for adults, 1,000 yen for children), which is sold at the front desk of each facility. It is only sold to guests staying at Nyuto Onsenkyo, and within the one-year validity period from purchase, you can take a bath at each of the seven baths once. You can enjoy the charms of each of the seven baths at a great price, and it makes a perfect souvenir.
In addition, with the "Yumeguricho", you can get the privilege of riding on the "Yumegurigo" shuttle bus that circulates within Nyuto Onsenkyo. The "Yumeguri Map" (1,000 yen), which is also sold to day-trippers, does not include the bathing fee, but allows unlimited rides on the "Yumegurigo" for one day on the day of purchase. This is another item worth checking out.
Each has its own unique character. What is the appeal of Nyuto Onsenkyo?
Nyuto Onsenkyo is made up of seven such inns, each with its own unique character. Tsuru no Yu, the oldest inn in Nyuto Onsenkyo, is a historic hot spring that was a hot spring resort for the lord of Akita. Taenoyu is a popular inn among women, combining a Japanese style with a modern atmosphere.
Kuroyu Onsen boasts the largest volume of hot spring water in Nyuto Onsenkyo and a history of about 350 years, Kaniba Onsen is surrounded by virgin forest and offers an open-air bath where you can enjoy the changing seasons, and Okama Onsen is unique as it was built as a relocated wooden school building, giving it a hideaway feel. Kyukamura Nyuto Onsenkyo is a modern facility with a full range of outdoor facilities and activities, including a campsite.
In 2022, Magoroku Onsen, one of the seven inns, faced the biggest crisis of all, having to give up on continuing the business due to the absence of a successor and a lack of manpower. In response to this, the other inns came together with the idea that "Nyuto Onsenkyo is one with seven baths" and "Do not let the light of Magoroku Onsen go out," and decided to take over the management of Magoroku Onsen in the local area by investing jointly.
In response to this trend, Magoroku Onsen is currently undergoing renovation. While retaining the charm of the hidden hot spring known as the "medicinal hot spring of the mountains," it will be reborn as a private inn under the name "Magoroku Onsen - Rokuan -" and is scheduled to reopen in the fall of 2024.
