[Part 4] The natural blessings of Okuizu. What is the appeal of Kannon Onsen?

Kannon Onsen Building

Kannon Onsen, nestled in the lush mountains of Izu Oku-Shimoda, is known for its "exquisite hot springs, both drinkable and directly sourced." The alkaline springs, which gush forth from three abundant springs, are exceptionally soft, with a hardness of less than 1.0, and contain a lot of the beauty ingredient silica, making them a rare spring quality. Bathing in the spring makes your skin as smooth as a newborn baby's, so much so that it has been dubbed "the spring for virgin skin that goes beyond beautiful skin." The springs are also perfect for drinking, and their gentle texture and slightly sweet taste have won the gold award at the Monde Selection for three consecutive years, including the highest award, the Supreme Gold Award.

Kannon Onsen Pygmalion Room with Open-air Bath

Seiunkan

Annex Sando-tei

There are four accommodation buildings: "Pygmalion," a private inner room with an open-air bath in every room; "Main Building," guest rooms with sky-high cypress baths; "Seiunkan," guest rooms with garden cypress baths nestled in the forest zone; and "Ubusuna-tei," which was renovated in 2022 to create connecting rooms that can accommodate three generations at the same time.

Galatia Kannon no Yu, Taiso Hinoki Bath

Kannon Principle

There are two large public baths: Galatia Kannon-no-Yu, which is exclusively for guests and has 11 hot spring facilities including a starry open-air bath and a forest sauna; and Kannon Principle, a day-trip hot spring created from the proprietress's desire to allow more people to experience Kannon Onsen casually. Both baths are proud of their large cypress baths, which use an abundance of cypress from the premises and exude a gentle fragrance. Of particular note is the proprietress's commitment to "direct-flowing spring water," and almost all of the baths, from the large public bath to the indoor baths in the rooms, are "drinkable and direct-flowing from the source."

Kannon Farm House

Kannon Onsen Tomato

At Kannon Farm House on the mountain behind the restaurant, dozens of kinds of vegetables are grown without pesticides and used in each menu item, in keeping with the idea of "local production for local consumption," which states, "We want to treat our guests who come to our land to the natural bounty of the area."

Among them, the "Kannon Onsen Tomatoes," which boast a mellow sweetness, are a specialty that are offered to guests as souvenirs. Inside the greenhouse, temperature and humidity are controlled using hot spring geothermal heat and a solar system, practicing the use of environmentally friendly resources in a recycling-oriented manner. In addition to the farm greenhouses, the site also cultivates shiitake mushrooms and produces homemade "Yamamomoshu" and "Umeshu," both of which are served in the restaurant.

Another specialty is the "Gensen Umeboshi" plums, which are pickled by the staff themselves and dried in the sun the traditional way, making them a popular souvenir. The rich alkaline activity (pH 9.5) of Kannon Onsen water brings out the natural mellow flavor of the plums, making this a special product of great pride.
