Enjoy the finest 100% free-flowing sulfur spring water in a bathhouse with exposed log beams.
A modern and relaxing space.
The milky white hot spring water is filled to the brim, and the smell of sulfur hangs in the air... This is the true joy of a 100% free-flowing sulfur spring. This is what a hot spring is all about. Zao Kokusai Hotel is known for its "Yaemon no Yu." The skin-beautifying hot spring water flows at an incredible rate of one and a half stones per minute, providing the ultimate bathing experience.
The bathhouse is made of exposed log beams, and combined with indirect lighting, it gives off the feel of a hot spring resort. You can fully enjoy the comfort of the free-flowing hot spring water while feeling the warmth of the wood. The indoor bath is fully glassed in, giving a sense of openness. In the open-air bath, you can enjoy two baths with different temperatures. It is said to be especially charming in the snowy season. In the three types of private baths - cypress, granite, and barrier-free - you can have the 100% free-flowing sulfur spring water all to yourself.
An open-air stone bath where you can feel the great outdoors of Zao. There are two bathtubs with different temperatures.
Recent renovations have added three types of modern Japanese-style guest rooms, and in December 2023, the hotel will also introduce the Luxury Suite and Deluxe Suite. The Luxury Suite is the hotel's highest grade room, with a luxurious 75m2 of space and equipped with a dining table and daybed. The Deluxe Suite is 57m2 and has a comfortable Japanese atmosphere with a spacious tatami living room and daybed. The bedrooms in both rooms are equipped with Simmons double beds that will induce a deep sleep, allowing you to pamper your body after being soothed by the famous hot spring.
It is scheduled to reopen in December 2023. The Luxury Suite is a luxurious space of 75 square meters, unique to a hotel that focuses on spaciousness. The bedroom is equipped with a 140 cm Simmons double bed.
Enjoy gourmet cuisine with a kaiseki dinner featuring Yamagata beef and a comparison of brand-name rice
For dinner, you can enjoy a multi-course meal featuring Yamagata beef, which is popular for its juiciness and richness. The "Zao Mountain Kaizen" course is packed with seasonal Yamagata flavors, and includes appetizers to be enjoyed with aperitifs, seafood carpaccio, hot dishes, soups, and more, all of which are full of the flavors of the hometown. You can choose to have the Yamagata beef cooked on a teppanyaki, shabu-shabu, or sukiyaki. The hotel recommends "Tsuyahime," a brand of rice that Yamagata is proud of. As its name suggests, this rice is shiny, and is highly praised for its sweetness and umami. You should definitely try its deliciousness. The breakfast buffet offers a wide variety of dishes, including local flavors such as mountain vegetables, pickles, and the famous ball konnyaku, as well as rice porridge and freshly baked bread, so you can choose as much as you like from the menu. You'll also find yourself reaching for the famous beef curry made with Yamagata beef.
The kaiseki cuisine, which makes generous use of Yamagata beef raised in a fertile environment and other local ingredients, is very popular.
