Ibusuki Shusuien is a sukiya-style inn that adds a relaxing atmosphere to the tropical atmosphere of Satsuma-ji. The inn's space, which has been cultivated over more than 60 years of history, is filled with the aesthetic sense of Satsuma. There are 10 types of guest rooms where you can feel the spirit of Satsuma in the comfort of a Japanese room. The top floor, the 5th floor executive floor, facing Kinko Bay, is the pinnacle of spatial beauty, with one exclusive Japanese-Western room, the Shimazu Room, two exclusive special rooms that combine a Japanese-Western room with a reception room, and the modern Japanese-Western room, the Tsurumaru Room, which opened in 2022, creating an exceptionally high-quality stay. The Tsurumaru Room has a living room including a 6-tatami mat Japanese room and a bedroom with two semi-double beds, both of which are 26 m2. It is an extraordinary space that responds to the trends of the times. On the first floor is the Japanese-Western room, the Shusu Room. It is popular as the only guest room that overlooks the purely Japanese-style dry landscape garden from the veranda.
The new Japanese-Western style "Tsurumaru no Ma" bedroom is equipped with a Simmons semi-double bed that will ensure a good night's sleep. The flat floor is spacious and comfortable, making it easy for wheelchair users to use.
Four types of kaiseki course plans showcasing the pride of a renowned inn and the chef's cutting skills
The cuisine is the ultimate, also known as "a garden of deliciousness, flavor, and aroma." Everyone is amazed by the deliciousness, color, elegant presentation, and depth of flavor of southern Kyushu, blessed with sea and land. The skilled chef who inherits the inn's food lineage shows off his skills. For dinner, you can enjoy the inn's four proud kaiseki plans in a private room or in-room dining at the restaurants "Shimazu-han" and "Shikisai." The basic kaiseki course, which incorporates seasonal ingredients, includes "softly boiled Satsuma black pork" and "grilled abalone with miso (grilled in a persimmon pot in winter)," which are the inn's specialty dishes. All of the dishes are equally delicious, including the Shikisai kaiseki course, which allows you to taste seasonal ingredients, the shabu kaiseki course, which allows you to enjoy pure black pork, and the premium kaiseki course, which allows you to savour foie gras and shark fin. The culinary delight is further enhanced when you pair it with "Kiraku," a shochu that conveys the inn's history as a brewery.
The great thing about the large communal bath and open-air bath is that the water flows directly from the source. There are two types of private bathing areas, a Japanese-style and a Western-style, with living rooms, a foot bath, and a "sand foot bath" available for use. If you want to enjoy a real sand bath, the "Sand Bath Hall" is just four minutes from the inn. You can easily get there in a yukata. Inside the building, there are exhibits of calligraphy and valuable documents by heroes of the Meiji Restoration such as Saigo Takamori and Okubo Toshimichi, which will leave you with a myriad of emotions. You'll want to come back just for the baths and the food. This is a great inn that is indispensable on your journey along the Satsuma road.
The stone bath "Private Bathing Place Ao" has a fantastical appearance that is reminiscent of the blue waters of Kinko Bay. Senburi tea to regulate the stomach and intestines is also available in the lobby cafe.
