The only lodging in the World Heritage Site "Hagi Castle Town." Enjoy a stay at the north gate where Japanese and Western styles blend together and experience the atmosphere of the Meiji Restoration.
Within Hagi Castle, which was once the residence of the Mori clan, Hokumon Yashiki stands on the site of the Yoshiki Mori family residence in the Sannomaru area of Hagi Castle, where the senior vassals who protected the castle once lived. It is the only inn located within the World Heritage Site, Hagi Castle Town. Once you pass through the front gate, reminiscent of a samurai residence, you will enter a different world filled with flowers and Western splendor. Just as Hagi's ancestors once studied the West with a Japanese spirit, the inn is clothed in romantic Western elegance and splendor with the hospitality of a "ryokan."
The guest rooms are mainly Japanese in style. Nanen offers a range of spaces with garden views, including the VIP room "Keizuki" with a Japanese garden and an open-air hot spring bath, the special Japanese suite "Shizuki" made from keyaki wood, the Japanese-Western suite "Kagetsu" with its innovative Western atmosphere, and the "West Wing" with its Japanese modern guest rooms and premium Japanese-Western rooms. The design is what you should see. Japanese aesthetics and stylized beauty are reflected in the texture of the walls, the grain of the pillars, and the feel of the floors. Spend an extraordinary time in this fusion of Japanese relaxation and Western glamour... The inn calls this style of travel the "Hokumon Stay."
Nanen "Open-air Suite." Relax in the open-air hot spring bath or on the terrace while looking out at the private garden.
Flower-filled baths and baths with historical views. Hospitality cuisine that reflects the bounty of Hagi.
The hot springs are also a time of beautiful garden views. The large bath, called "Seasonal Flower Tour Bath," offers a view of the seasonal colors of the plants through a sunroom-like glass window. "White Wall Bath" overlooks the historical scenery surrounded by the white walls of the Mori family mansion. Each bath is equipped with two open-air baths, inviting you to a time of bliss.
The large bath, "Shirakabe no Yu," overlooks the historical landscape surrounded by the white walls of the Mori family residence, part of the World Heritage Site, "Hagi Castle Town."
The food is also a delight, adding a touch of color to your stay. Surrounded by the sea and mountains, Hagi is rich in fresh produce from the Sea of Japan, such as tilefish in spring, horse mackerel in summer, sea urchin and abalone, and fugu in winter, as well as the brand Mutsumi pork and Nagahagi wagyu beef. The inn serves up dishes made with the seasonal bounty of each season, and the quality and quantity of the food will leave you overwhelmed.
During your stay, be sure to take a historical stroll. You can walk through Hagi Castle Town with an old Edo map in hand. The hotel is also clearly marked on the old map. It is also close to historical sites and old ruins that recall the Meiji Restoration.
You can enjoy banquet cuisine made with carefully selected ingredients, such as seasonal local fish that are unique to Yamaguchi, which is surrounded by the sea on three sides, and Hagi's brand beef, "Nagahagi Wagyu." Be sure to also try the king of Yamaguchi's flavors, "Fugu."
