Founded in 1690 (Genroku 3), Hizenya is a unique inn that connects the two prefectures of Oita and Kumamoto. The hotel offers a relaxing stay, with the murmuring of the Tsuetate River and the changing seasonal colors of the virgin forest on the opposite bank close at hand. Refreshment work on the main entrance and lobby will be completed in June 2024, further enhancing the impression of the inn as a Japanese-style inn.
You can enjoy a variety of hot springs with just one stay. There are 11 abundant hot springs on the premises, and a total of 41 baths for men and women are available in the four hot spring facilities inside and outside the building. Moreover, the water is alkaline with a pH of over 8.5, which is good for the skin, and contains 138 mg of metasilicic acid, which is said to be a natural moisturizing ingredient, making it a popular beauty bath and fatigue recovery bath. The hot spring facilities inside the building include the Kumamoto building's "Higo no Yu," which has a large bath decorated with stained glass and an open-air bath that blends in with the tranquility of the Tsuetate River, and the Oita building's "Bungo no Yu," which is equipped with the "Forest Terrace," the world's first anti-aging sauna. An anti-aging sauna is a low-temperature sauna that emits far-infrared rays into the space, revitalizing the skin and warming the body from the inside out. Enjoying it together with the natural hot springs of Bungo no Yu will have an immediate effect on your beauty. Forest Terrace also has amusement facilities such as a bowling alley, table tennis tables, and a pool, proposing more fun than just the hot springs.
The fun also extends to the annex hot springs. Kissho-no-Yu and Daishizen are inns along the mountain stream. Kissho-no-Yu, the inn's pride and joy, offers large and small rock baths, a wooden bath, a tub bath, and a lava bath for both men and women. The temperature is adjusted using three different springs, so you can always enjoy 100% natural hot spring water straight from the source. Daishizen has a large Japanese-style bath and a large Western-style bath, both of which are equipped with open-air baths. You can relax in the spacious baths. They are open 24 hours a day, so you can rest assured even if you check in late.
After soothing yourself in the four baths, you can relax in an exceptionally comfortable guest room. Standard guest rooms come in a wide variety of sizes, from 10 to 28 tatami mats, and include Japanese-style twin rooms and maisonette rooms with Simmons semi-double beds, as well as modern rooms, all of which have been renovated in recent years to offer improved comfort. On the top floor, two "premium rooms with open-air hot spring baths" have been created by renovating VIP rooms. There is also a living space, and you will be soothed by the luxurious space and picturesque valley views.
A premium room with a private open-air bath on the top 9th floor. You can enjoy a picturesque view of the valley while soaking in the hot spring.
The Japanese modern restaurant "Yaoyorozu Dining" offers hospitality through the traditional crafts of both Kumamoto and Oita prefectures, creating a truly delicious dining experience. You will be greeted by the fantastically swaying "double mirror bamboo lanterns". In a space decorated with crafts that you will want to post on social media, you will find teppanyaki and grill, tempura and steaming areas, and other facilities, where you can enjoy freshly prepared dishes made with carefully selected ingredients from the bountiful Kyushu in buffet style. If you want to enjoy a leisurely kaiseki meal, head to the restaurant teahouse "Mankiro". The specialty kaiseki meal is the "Wagyu Teppanyaki Plan to Compare the Tastes of Higo and Bungo". It is a gourmet experience that can only be had at Hizenya.
