For all visitors to experience all the charms of Japan's most lush hidden village.
This is a relaxing inn where that strong feeling is reflected in the facilities and hospitality.
Hitoyoshi is a place rich in nature with the Kuma River, one of Japan's three fastest rivers, flowing through the center of the basin. The conservative yet progressive culture that was brought to this area under the rule of the Sagara clan, which lasted for about 700 years from the Kamakura period to the Meiji Restoration, is still alive and well today, and the area has been designated a Japan Heritage site as "Hitoyoshi Kuma, Japan's most fertile hidden village."
The Kuma River and basin below offer a magnificent view. On the opposite bank is the ruins of Hitoyoshi Castle, a symbol of the history and culture of the Sagara clan. Within walking distance is Aoi Aso Shrine, with five buildings designated as national treasures. The Ayusato Spring, a hot spring with skin-beautifying properties dug by the founder, seasonal flavors, and Kuma Shochu, a cultural asset that is a part of the Japan Heritage Site... Ayunosato where you can enjoy all of its endless charms. This exceptionally high-quality space is filled with the "luxury of the mind" and "ultimate relaxation" that the inn promotes and aspires to.
There are 14 types of guest rooms, including suites where you can enjoy the hot springs and the scenic beauty unique to this area. The calming Japanese modern design will soothe you and help you sleep deeply while feeling the pulse of nature. The guest rooms with open-air hot spring baths, which were renovated in 2021, include the panoramic suites of approximately 110 m2, the luxury suites of approximately 90 m2, and the premium suites of 70 m2. To conserve the precious hot spring resources, an automatic heating system ensures that you can bathe at the perfect temperature at any time. The view is perfect for families, groups of 2 to 4, anniversaries, and more.
It is recorded that the feudal lord Sagara also bathed in Hitoyoshi Hitoyoshi Onsen. The two baths, which overlook the ruins of Hitoyoshi Castle and the Kuma River from a comfortable height, are a great way to reminisce about that history.
On the fifth floor, there is the "Kurano-Yuden" where you can enjoy three different types of baths, while on the third floor there is the "Yama-nami-no-Yuya" which features a bath (restored) modelled on the white walls of Hitoyoshi Castle. Both have beautiful views and a sense of oneness with nature that will revitalise your body and mind. The baths are filled with water from the hotel's own hot spring, which is renowned for its skin-beautifying properties. The spring quality is a bicarbonate spring, and the abundance of bicarbonate ions and metasilicic acid promotes blood circulation, metabolism and skin turnover. The spring water is drinkable. During your time in the building, you can also enjoy a foot bath with water directly from the source.
The fifth floor open-air bath, "Kura no Yudono" is modeled after the storehouse of Hitoyoshi Castle. The inn is proud of its open-air bath where you can enjoy three different types of baths.
Hitoyoshi's rich food culture, seasonal Japanese-Western fusion cuisine, the taste of Kuma Shochu, and yoga in the morning mist are also impressive
Dinner is a Japanese-Western fusion banquet that uses seasonal local ingredients. It is a gourmet meal prepared in the most delicious way possible when the ingredients are at their best. From June to October, you can also enjoy the deliciousness of salt-grilled wild sweetfish, a local specialty, and sashimi.
The dish is complemented by the internationally recognized brand "Kuma Shochu." We recommend "Hitoyoshi Okami Sakura," developed by the Hitoyoshi Onsen Okami Association. Made from Hitoyoshi's famous waters and locally grown "Hinohikari" rice, it is an aged liquor that has been aged for over seven years, and is popular among women for its mellow, rich flavor. It is also vegan-certified, which is rare for shochu. For dining, try the modern "Dining Zenzo Sakura," or "Sagara Hanakoji," which also has private rooms. You can relax and enjoy your meal in a beautiful space.
The nightlife in Hitoyoshi continues. The Kuma Shochu Lounge is a free drinks lounge exclusively for guests. There are over 200 types of shochu brands in the Kuma area of Hitoyoshi, and they are characterized by their mellow aroma and deep flavor, with a wide variety of flavors to enjoy. Be sure to head to the Sky Terrace early in the morning, where you can enjoy views of the Kuma River and the mountains of Southern Kyushu. Feel the pulse of nature up close with morning yoga at Rusie Datton and refresh yourself. For breakfast, refuel with a delicious and tasty Japanese breakfast set of nine boxes. There's no hustle and bustle like at a buffet, so you can enjoy the quiet and calm.
Each and every member of staff is a concierge. They will wholeheartedly welcome you, wanting you to fully experience the value and charm of the treasures that have been passed down in this area, such as the history and culture that are reminiscent of scenic beauty, the natural beauty, the skin-beautifying hot springs, and the delicious food of each season. They want all visitors to become fans of Hitoyoshi... This is the idea that permeates every corner of the inn. A superb stay will fill your heart.
