This honorable title is given to facilities that have been selected as one of the "Top 250 Popular Hot Spring Inns and Hotels" a total of five or more times (per year).
The "Five Star Inn" is an honorable title given to facilities that have been selected five or more times (per year) in the "Top 250 Popular Hot Spring Inns and Hotels" (100,000 voting postcards are distributed each year and the results are tallied) organized by the Tourism Economics Newspaper and supported by the Japan Tourism Agency, the Ministry of the Environment, and eight tourism-related organizations (Japan Ryokan & Hotel Association, All Japan Ryokan & Hotel Association, Japan Hot Springs Association, Japan Association of Travel Agents, All Nippon Travel Agents, Japan Tourism Association, Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), and Japan Travel Bureau).
The "Top 250 Hot Spring Inns" is a popularity poll for hot spring inns conducted by employees of major travel agencies across the country. Each employee is asked to vote for up to five "recommended inns" based on a professional perspective on "facilities," "food," "baths," "service," and "atmosphere." The top 250 inns with the most votes are published every year, without ranking.
The reason we have chosen not to rank them is that, unlike hotels, Japanese inns come in a variety of different types, both hard and soft, and we feel that a simple ranking would not be appropriate.
A major event attracting attention from media across the country
The 250 Selections has been organized as a millennium project by the Tourism Economics Newspaper Company since 2000 (1999). Selected facilities are presented with a special certificate featuring a "★" mark. The certificate presentation ceremony is held in Tokyo every January. It is a grand ceremony attended by over 500 people, including the award-winning inns and hotels and guests from the tourism industry, and is a major event that attracts attention not only from the tourism industry but also from media nationwide.
The "Five Star Inns" are made up of 250 elite inns selected from inns and hotels across the country, and even more carefully selected elite inns are selected.

It is an important indicator for choosing accommodation not only for domestic travelers but also for international travelers.
"Five Star Accommodation" is a registered trademark of our company (Trademark Registration No. 5092048), and is a title that cannot be used anywhere else. Our accommodations are becoming widely recognized both inside and outside the tourism industry as "accommodations that provide a high level of service."
This "Five Star Certification" for a Japanese inn or hotel is a first in the industry. It is becoming recognized as a valuable indicator when selecting accommodations not only within Japan but also by overseas travel agencies and travelers.
Along with the "Top 250 Popular Hot Spring Inns and Hotels," the Tourism Economics Newspaper Company also conducts a popularity poll of hot spring resorts across Japan called the "Top 100 Hot Springs in Japan." Like the "Top 250" ranking, this ranking is attracting attention from media across the country.
What is "5-star PLATINUM Inn"?
"Platinum Five-Star Inn" is a title given to inns that have been selected 25 times in the "Top 250 Popular Hot Spring Inns" list.
There is great value in being chosen and continuing to be chosen by travel professionals.
