The garden open-air bath at Izura Kanko Hotel, beloved by Yokoyama Taikan
A hot spring resort beloved by famous artists
Izura Coast is made up of five coves resembling an open palm. The Izura Kanko Hotel is one of the most famous hotels in northern Kanto, offering a panoramic view of the magnificent scenery. It is also known for being the base from which famous artists such as Okakura Tenshin and Yokoyama Taikan left behind various works.
Visitors are enchanted by the sea, with its white waves crashing against old pine trees and oddly shaped rocks; the land associated with Tenshin and Taikan; the food, where you can enjoy a variety of local flavors including monkfish hotpot in winter; and the famous hot springs.
For a "bath," we recommend the large public bath at the Annex Taikanso,"Taikan no Yu." The open-air bath boasts a magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean, and you can fully enjoy the feeling of blending into the ocean scenery, like a Japanese painting by Yokoyama Taikan. The indoor bath also offers a panoramic view of the ocean through large windows, making you feel as if you are gazing at a magnificent painting.
The water is a free-flowing natural hot spring with a source temperature of 71 degrees and is rich in minerals. It is said to be effective against various ailments such as neuralgia, muscle pain, and poor circulation.
Enjoy an open-air bath in a private space
The Taikanso has a special detached room, the former villa of Yokoyama Taikan, complete with a private open-air bath. The entire building can be rented exclusively, making it perfect for a get-together with three generations of family or close friends. Of course, it can also be used by one or two people.
There are also two private baths, "Tsubaki no Yu" and "Hamagiku no Yu."Hamagiku no Yu is barrier-free, with handrails and other features, so it is safe for people with disabilities and the elderly.
The main building's large public bath, "Izura no Yu," is an open-air garden bath and an indoor bath surrounded by trees. The greenery of the trees, the sound of the slowly flowing waterfall, and the faint sound of the waves from afar soothe the mind and body of all who visit. The sukiya-style roof, the stone paving underfoot, and the stone lantern standing beside the bath are also impressive.
The indoor bath offers a view of the garden open-air bath through a large window. The sunlight streaming in from outside and the steam rising from the bathtub further enhance the "hot spring experience."
