Seaside Inatori Onsen is full of events to enjoy throughout the four seasons
A seaside hot spring resort popular with families

Inatori Onsen in Higashiizu Town, Shizuoka Prefecture, is located on a small cape jutting out from the coastline, with a magnificent location overlooking Izu Oshima and the Pacific Ocean. It is a relatively new hot spring resort, with hot springs first gushing out in 1956.

The area has developed as a hot spring resort thanks to the popularity of its open-air baths with spectacular views and inns that serve fresh seafood caught in Inatori and nearby fishing ports. Many regulars also visit for the historic traditional events such as the Hina Doll Hanging Festival.

On July 19th, Ikejiri Sea Garden, a beach and beach pool complex near the hot spring resort, celebrated its opening day. The pond-shaped beach, surrounded by rocks, minimizes wave intrusion, making it safe for even small children to play, making it a popular spot with an increasing number of repeat visitors. Experiences you won't find on the sandy beach, like snorkeling to see colorful fish or catching crabs and shrimp from the rocks, are definitely worth trying. For children who are afraid of deep tides or the ocean, we recommend the adjacent beach pool. The annual "turban catching contest" held in the same area is also extremely popular, taking place this year from July 28th to 30th.

Children's Festival

Additionally, on the nights of August 4th to 6th, a "Chibikko Festival" will be held for children, with handmade games and night stalls selling shaved ice and other items. Every year, it is bustling with families.

The annual summer fireworks festival will be held for a total of 10 days, starting from July 21st for five days and August 25th for five days. The fireworks will be launched from three locations: in front of the Inatori Ginsuiso, Ikejiri Beach Sunrise Terrace, and Inatori Fishing Port. The highlight of the festival is the launch of approximately 300 large fireworks, which will be launched for 10 minutes starting at 8:30 pm at each location!

The changing colors with the seasons are also a highlight

Hosono and Misujiyama

Inatori has plenty to see outside of the summer. A must-see tourist spot in autumn is Inatori Hosono Plateau, which was selected as one of the "Top 100 Grassland Villages to Preserve for the Future." It's the best panoramic spot in eastern Izu, overlooking the Amagi Mountains, the highest peak on the Izu Peninsula, and the Izu Islands floating in the vast Sagami Bay. The silver grass grows in clusters and begins to sprout in October, turning 125 hectares of grassland, the equivalent of 26 Tokyo Domes, a golden hue, creating a fantastical view that can only be seen in this season. This year's "Autumn Silver Grass Appreciation Event" will be held for approximately one month, from October 31st to November 30th.

Hina dolls hanging decorations

Inatori, the birthplace of hanging Hina dolls, is famous for its early spring event, the Hina Doll Hanging Decoration Festival, held annually from January 20th to the end of March. It is held at four venues, with the Cultural Park Hina Doll Museum as its main venue. The highlight of the festival is the Susanoo Shrine Hina Doll Display. At Susanoo Shrine, Hina dolls and hanging decorations are displayed on 118 tiers, said to be the largest display tier of Hina dolls in Japan. The sight of the solemn shrine atmosphere and the colorful and gorgeous Hina dolls is a sight not to be missed when visiting.
