Gero Onsen(Gero City, Gifu Prefecture) is one of the "Three Famous Hot Springs of Japan" and ranked third in the "Top 100 Hot Springs of Japan" for 2024, selected by travel professionals such as employees of travel agencies and online travel agencies across the country. It has been ranked in the top three for four consecutive years since 2020, making it one of the leading hot spring resorts in Japan, attracting attention from travel agency employees.

The spring quality is simple (alkaline simple spring), and is effective for rheumatism, recovery from illness and fatigue, neurosis, etc. The smooth texture of the water is also effective for beauty and health, and it is known as a hot spring that is popular among women.

You can enjoy outdoor baths at three public baths, and the free footbaths installed in eight locations are a great way to soak in them while you're strolling around. If you purchase the economical "Yumeguri Tegata," you can bathe at three baths, making it the perfect memento or souvenir of your trip.

We recommend strolling around the hot spring town just off JR Gero Station and enjoying some food while walking around. Popular items include "Sukiyaki Croquette" made with Hida beef, "Ontama Soft Serve" soft serve ice cream topped with a soft-boiled egg, and recently "Gero Pudding."

Along with Hida beef, game dishes are also attracting attention. The prefecture has established a system for registering affiliated stores under the "Gifu Gibier" program, and Suimeikan in Gero Onsen is registered, where you can enjoy exquisite game dishes.

There are plenty of activities to enjoy in this natural environment. Beat the heat with activities like shower climbing in a wetsuit around Kosaka Falls, or kayaking or SUPing at Lake Kinzan in Tosenkyo!

Kurort walking is also recommended. There are two walking courses for improving your health in Gero City.

In addition to hot springs and gourmet food, Gero Onsen also hosts a variety of events.

This year, the "Summer Festival in Gero Onsen" will be held every Saturday from July 19th to August 16th around Shirasagi Bridge (no event on August 2nd, but will be held on Monday, August 4th). Many local food stalls will be set up, and you can enjoy different events every week, such as drumming, dancing, and band performances.

Also, for four days starting from August 1st, the most popular summer event, the 2025 Gero Onsen, will be held. Events include the Dragon God Fire Festival, where five dragons dance wildly amidst light and flames, the Yunohana Mikoshi Parade, where elaborately decorated mikoshi (portable shrines) from Gero Onsen are paraded through the hot spring town at night, and the Gero Dance. On the 3rd, the Gero Onsen Fireworks Musical Summer Performance will be held, featuring a pyrotechnician who won the Prime Minister's Award at the National Fireworks Competition. The performance is characterized by the use of computers to synchronize the fireworks to the rhythm of the music, and approximately 10,000 fireworks will light up the night sky above the hot spring town.
