The three main elements of a ryokan or hotel are facilities, food, and service. In addition to these, what makes a Japanese inn many times more appealing are the hot springs and baths.
In this coming season, soaking in a famous hot spring will relax your mind and body and wash away the fatigue of the year. In the first part, "Bath-Proud Inns: Tohoku Edition 1," we will introduce two inns in Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures.

Minamisanrikuhotel Kanyo is a sea Kanyo floating on Shizugawa Bay in Miyagi. Its great location overlooking the green islands and the Pacific Ocean is attractive, and the calm sea soothes the souls of its guests. Minamisanriku Onsen, which springs up on the Pacific coast, is rare in Miyagi Prefecture and is a "deep natural hot spring that springs up from 2000m underground."

The hotel boasts a large public bath and an open-air bath with a panoramic view of Shizugawa Bay, and the view of the sun rising over the horizon from the open-air bath is particularly spectacular! It's worth getting up early, and the sight of the black-tailed gulls circling around will bring a smile to your face.

The restaurant is proud of its seasonal seafood delivered via the Sanriku Golden Highway. After bathing in the hot springs, you can enjoy specialty dishes made with plenty of carefully selected ingredients, such as the "Minami Sanriku Kirakira Donburi" rice bowl, which was invented by the hotel.

The museum has held over 100 "Star Parties" twice a month on its rooftop. The event boasts an incredibly high rate of clear skies. The explanations by the three "star sommeliers" are so enjoyable that you will be drawn in.

The hot spring at Miorine no Yado Sansuiso draws in a rich amount of water from the source at a temperature of 60 degrees, at about 230 liters per minute, and adds natural spring water to adjust the temperature to make it comfortable for bathing. The spring quality is alkaline simple hot spring. The staff highly recommends it, saying, "The way it warms your body is different from other hot springs."

"Taishi no Yu" is a rustic open-air bath overlooking the mountain stream and two-tiered waterfall, and is available only to guests staying at the hotel. "Tenbo Taki no Yu" is a large bath with a panoramic view of the valley below. "Tenbo Fuchi no Yu" spans two floors, and offers a variety of baths, including deep baths, warm baths, and tub baths.

In addition, there is a large public bath with an open-air bath with natural hot spring water, an auto-louver sauna, and five private baths, including open-air and semi-open-air baths.

There are a total of 69 guest rooms, and in April 2023, the new Shisuitei (15 rooms) will have its grand opening! Some rooms have outdoor and semi-open-air baths with natural hot spring water, and some even have terraces, so you can enjoy bathing in a private space while taking in the magnificent natural scenery. There is also a private dining area exclusively for guests staying at Shisuitei, so you can enjoy your meal without worrying about the eyes of others.
