Immerse yourself in the beauty of Japanese baths at Arai Ryokan, a hotel with a series of famous buildings
The charm of historic architecture
Arai Ryokan is a traditional Japanese inn that opened in 1872 and has been loved by leading cultural figures of the era. One of the inn's charms is the collection of historic, famous architectural buildings, with 15 buildings on the premises registered as tangible cultural properties by the country.
The wooden building, partially three stories high, has 28 guest rooms. The building is arranged around two ponds, and a covered bridge connects the main building, the "Moon Tower," with the other accommodation buildings. The corridors have narrow planks on the floor, allowing you to see the flow of the pond's water.
The beautiful and intricate wooden structure of the Tenpyo Bathhouse
The oldest building at Arai Ryokan, Seishu-ro, is a castle-style building with karahafu gables and a hexagonal tower. The Tenpyo Great Bathhouse, built in 1934 and made entirely of cypress, is a breathtaking sight with its high, chapel-like ceilings and intricately constructed wooden framework.
In addition to the open-air bath and large public bath, there are also private baths such as the "Water Lily," which has an octagonal roof and an octagonal pool carved from the same cypress wood used in the "Tempyo Great Bath."
