"5-Star Ryokans" is a title given to inns that have been selected five or more times (per year) in total in the "Top 250 Popular Hot Spring Inns and Hotels," which are selected annually by travel professionals, including employees of travel agencies, in a popular vote for inns and hotels in hot spring resorts. The 2025-26 edition introduces 122 of the 239 5-Star Ryokans nationwide, along with tourist facilities in the hot spring resorts and their surrounding areas. In addition, the ranking of "Top 100 Hot Springs in Japan," which is announced together with the "Top 250 Popular Hot Spring Inns and Hotels," is also published.
