A world-class wellness and Japanese resort in a national park.
What is provided is the "luxury of doing nothing" in order to face yourself.
Myojinkan is one of only eleven hotels in Japan that are members of the Relais & Chateaux association.
It is the only lodging facility within the Yatsugatake Chushin Kogen Quasi-National Park, and is one of only four lodging facilities in Japan to have received the eco-label "Green Key," an environmentally conscious award for its facilities, which include food made with organic vegetables grown on the facility's own farm with a focus on local production and consumption, and facilities built using organic materials.
What began as a small family-run inn that simply served guests with what they harvested from the mountains and grew in the fields has since expanded into farms in underprivileged land, and its history of valuing everything from food to hot springs still lives on 94 years after its founding, as the inn has developed into a world-renowned wellness and Japanese resort.
At Myojinkan, you can enjoy unique cuisine based on the macrobiotic philosophy (Shindo Fujitsu) under the supervision of Executive Chef Masahiro Tanabe. The staff themselves plant rice and work in the fields at Tobira Farm, and you can enjoy dishes that allow you to taste the powerful flavor of the vegetables harvested there and the bounty of the season, as well as a variety of Japanese dishes that are in keeping with Matsumoto's food culture, all presented in an innovative way.
The dining spaces "Nature French Cuisine" and "Shinshu Dining TOBIRA", which blend in with the nature of Tobira Onsen, continue to fascinate Myojinkan fans at their presentation venues.
The attraction is the facilities
Myojinkan is surrounded by large beech and oak trees, blending into the environment of the untouched forest where squirrels live, and the source of the Usui River where trout live. The guest rooms are available in 12 types of extraordinary spaces where you can experience the "touji culture" that has been cherished since the hotel's founding, surrounded by abundant nature, and where you can spend a quiet time.
For example, "Zen SPA Living" is a room created with the image of the mountain stream that runs alongside Myojinkan and the mossy stream and natural forest upstream. The bathtub in the center of the living room is filled with hot spring water that seems to overflow from the sky, making it ideal for a meditative bath.
The extraordinary "Zen" SPA Living. There are no TVs in the rooms.
From the comfortable Sealy bed, you can gaze upon the forest as the seasons change. Pretty wild birds also visit the terrace. There is no TV in the room. It is a nature-luxury space where you can face your true self while "doing nothing."
The highlights of your stay include the standing bath "Setsugetsuka" where the colors of the valley are reflected on the surface of the water, the large communal bath with an open-air bath where you can soak up the natural light and breeze, the open terrace filled with negative ions from the source of the Usui River, the salon where you can enjoy sweets and delicious alcoholic beverages, the lobby where music is played from a vacuum tube amplifier, and the walking paths where you can spend your time relaxing and enjoying yourself.
If you let yourself be who you are, nature will give you back your energy. A resort menu essential for modern people shines in the peaceful forest.
Be sure to take a nature walk in the evening or morning. There is a walking path along the Usui River, with benches and gazebos. You might even see some cute squirrels.
