A remote inn that can only be reached by boat.
Beyond time and space, great healing awaits.
Shogawa Narrow is a gorge about 20km long. To get to Oomaki Onsen Kanko Ryokan Ryokan, board a Shogawa sightseeing boat from Komaki Dam and meander your way up the gorge. The glittering emerald green lake surface and the magnificent views on both banks are captivating. Sometimes you'll even see a Japanese serow. It feels like going back in time. It's a truly unexplored place. In winter, foreign visitors flock here to see the snowy scenery that looks like a sumi-e painting. After a 30-minute cruise, you'll arrive at the lone inn clinging to the cliff. From the dock, climb the stairs to reach the entrance.
The hot spring was discovered by a Heike warrior about 840 years ago. The current source is the Shogawa Seiryu Onsen, which wells up from the center of the Shogawa River, and the flow rate is 360 liters per minute. The greatest pleasure is to enjoy the luxury of doing nothing while relaxing in the rich natural hot spring water and gazing at the beauty of the valley woven by the nature of the four seasons. It's also fun to cast a fishing line into the Shogawa River.
The rooms overlooking the beautiful valley are mainly Japanese-style rooms facing the river that can accommodate 8 people, and Japanese-Western rooms with twin beds. The rooms with open-air baths and the 205m2 top-class special rooms have natural hot spring water. The inn is listed in the Michelin Guide. It is also extremely comfortable.
Dinner is a banquet course meal featuring natural fish, seafood from Toyama Bay, and mountain produce from Toyama, with three courses to choose from: basic, special, and extra special. A selection of exquisite delicacies.
The attraction is the hot springs
Listen to the sounds of birds and enjoy the pleasure of natural hot spring water
Relax in the hot springs, rich in beneficial properties, that bubble up from the bottom of the dam lake, and enjoy the tranquility of the deep nature along the Shogawa River. The large public baths, separated for men and women, are accessible from inside the building via tatami mats. You can relax while gazing at the steep cliffs and the gently flowing water through wide glass windows. The women's bath is closest to the lake, while the men's bath is equipped with a terrace bath made of cypress. Because the spring temperature is 58 degrees, water is added only when the bathtub is filled, but the water is generally free-flowing from the source.
The best thing about this bath is the open-air bath surrounded by the primeval forest. The women's bath has a large tub and a smaller tub filled with water in a hollow in the rocks, so you can bathe in the natural hot spring water without worrying about being seen by others. The men's bath is an open-air bath surrounded by rocks, full of rustic charm, where you can fully enjoy the feeling of oneness with nature. The high-temperature spring water that springs from the bottom of the lake is soft to the touch and warms the body from the inside out.
