"Uguisu no Yu" is a super deep water hot spring that springs from a stratum that is 360 million years old.
Take a bath in this one-of-a-kind hot spring that changes color to emerald green.
Okuhida boasts numerous hot springs fed by Mt. Yake, but the only one that transforms into a mystical emerald green is the ultra-deep-sea hot spring "Uguisu no Yu" at Okuhida Garden Hotel Yakedake. It has four private springs with a flow rate of 1 ton per minute. This rare hot spring was trapped in geological layers formed when the seabed rose during the Devonian period, approximately 360 million years ago. The bicarbonate spring, a prime example of a skin-beautifying spring, removes old dead skin cells, while the chloride spring envelops the skin like a thin veil. It also contains about five times the amount of metasilicic acid, a beauty-enhancing ingredient, compared to typical hot springs.
The nine bathhouses, each with its own unique atmosphere, allow you to enjoy 100% free-flowing hot spring water, a feature that is arguably unique in Japan.
The most popular spots are the mixed-gender open-air bath "Uguisu no Yu" and the cave bath "Bakusendo," among others, in the mixed-gender bathing area. You can fully enjoy yourself by wearing the free rental bathrobes (yuami). In addition to "Tennosen," which has two private open-air baths, there are also indoor baths in separate men's and women's areas with a standing bath and reclining bath that are 1.2 meters deep, a cypress open-air bath, a rock bath, a bedrock bath, and a Korean-style sauna, so you can enjoy yourself to the fullest and forget the passage of time.
After your hot spring tour, relax in a Japanese or Western-style room overlooking the natural beauty of the Northern Alps. A short rest will surely leave you wanting to return to the hot springs.
You can feel safe even in the rock mixed bathing area. "Yuami" (bath robes) are provided free of charge to enjoy the mixed bathing area.
The attraction is the food
"Oogottsuo." In the Hida dialect, this means a feast, and in Okuhida, there is a custom of treating guests to an abundance of local cuisine that they can't possibly finish. For dinner, you can enjoy a variety of dishes made with plenty of seasonal local ingredients while sitting around a charming hearth.
The signature dish is "Onsen Seiro Mushi" (steamed food in a hot spring steamer). This dish, rich in vitamins and minerals, uses ultra-deep-sea hot spring water, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of the hot springs through your meal. The soft-shelled turtle served in a hot pot is also raised in 100% natural hot spring water, making it extremely nutritious.
For special orders, you can enjoy fresh caviar made from eggs harvested from sturgeon raised in spring water and groundwater. You won't find another hotel anywhere in Japan that farms soft-shelled turtles, sturgeon, and even eels. The famous Hida beef is also A4 grade brand beef with individual identification numbers. You can savor its melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness in steaks, shabu-shabu, and more. Your mind and body will be revitalized by the blessings of Okuhida.
