Infinity baths and deep natural hot springs.
A storytelling bus to ensure memories of the disaster are not forgotten. A-grade gourmet food, stargazing...
A trip to Minami Sanriku is a series of surprises and impressions.

Hotel Kanyo is a 10-story white resort building that stands on the cliffs of a ria coast embracing the Pacific Ocean.
The ocean view from the lobby window impresses everyone who visits.
From the ocean view rooms, you can see the ocean unobstructed and the dramatic scenery that changes from morning to evening. Seagulls and black-headed gulls fly over the sea, and if you open the window of your room, you will see black-tailed gulls.

The "Minamisanriku Kirakira Ikura Donburi," which incorporates fresh local ingredients such as abalone, sea urchin, and salmon roe that change with the seasons, won the Special Jury Award at the Food Action Nippon Awards 2014.

The majestic sunrise and mysterious moon that can be viewed while soaking in the hot springs are also impressive.

The most popular attraction is the "Infinity Onsen" where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the ocean. The baths are filled with deep natural hot spring water that springs from the Pacific Ocean, a rare sight in Miyagi Prefecture, and while bathing in the open-air baths that jut out into the sea, you can have direct contact with the ocean. There are large baths on the second floor of the East Building and the fourth floor of the South Building where you can see the ocean through large glass windows, and you can enjoy the sensation that the water and the ocean are one.
Shizugawa Bay below is dotted with oyster, sea squirt, and wakame seaweed farms, as well as small fishing ports where a wealth of seafood is landed. The Minamisanriku Kirakira Donburi, which was launched in 2009 by the hotel's female owner as a way to revitalize the town through food, is also a gift from this bountiful sea. It has become a famous A-class gourmet dish of Minamisanriku.
Abe Cho Shoten, which operates the hotel, ships the abundant fish caught off the coast of Sanriku and processed products all over the country, and is working to popularize the fine cuisine of Sanriku. The dishes made with the best seafood of the season, such as grilled abalone and whole simmered shark fin from Kesennuma, are truly exquisite. No matter when you visit, you can enjoy delicious seafood cuisine.

Stargazing and a Shizugawa Bay cruise are nature experiences unique to Minami Sanriku

During your stay, we recommend experiencing the rich nature of Minami Sanriku.
The Minami Sanriku area is a great place for stargazing, as certified by the Ministry of the Environment's "Night Sky Brightness Survey." It was also selected by Rurubu Travel as one of the "Top 10 Hotels for Beautiful Stargazing."
The hotel opens its rooftop to the public twice a month and has hosted over 100 "Star Parties." This is an astronomy event that has a miraculously high rate of clear skies. The stories of the stars, constellations, galaxies, and nebulae explained by three star sommeliers are incredibly entertaining and captivating.
Be sure to also try a cruise around Shizugawa Bay.
The bay, registered under the Ramsar Convention, is a scenic spot known for its calm coastline, the rich sea, the fish farming shelves, Arashima Island, Nojima Island, and the national natural monument Tsubakijima Island. There are many wild birds, and black-tailed gulls come within reach. Cruise ships depart and arrive at Shizugawa Fishing Port.
The latest information about the hotel, including events and tourist information, is updated daily on the hotel's official blog and various social media sites. Apparently the official blog has already been posted more than 6,000 times. Be sure to search for it.

There are large public baths for men and women on the 2nd floor of the East Building and the 4th floor of the South Building. The spacious baths are comfortable and the view of the ocean as far as the eye can see is soothing.

Valuable experience
See the remains of the earthquake disaster with your own eyes and heart and learn lessons for disaster prevention and mitigation

The memory of the Great East Japan Earthquake must not be forgotten. The Takano Kaikan, owned by the hotel, and the Spiral Staircase of Life, located in the home of the founder of Abe Cho Shoten, remain in their damaged state as "silent storytellers." Both are registered as earthquake memorial facilities.
The hotel operates a "Storyteller Bus to Keep the Disaster in Mind," which anyone can apply for, every day, and continues to provide a place to learn about disaster prevention and mitigation while guiding visitors to the remains of the disaster. A total of 470,000 people have boarded the bus so far.
In recognition of these activities, the hotel was awarded the "3rd Japan Tourism Award." There are no other private companies that have steadily continued to hold such activities and "Storytelling Symposiums." With the memory of the Noto Peninsula earthquake on New Year's Day 2024 still fresh, we hope that the hotel's message will reach areas that have not been affected by the disaster.
On the way back, a free "sightseeing shuttle bus" operates Monday through Friday for guests. It takes you to the "Tsuyama Mokumoku Land Roadside Station," which has a craft shop and a vegetable stand, and "Yanaizu Kokuzoson," allowing you to make extra memories. This hotel is filled with many moving experiences that you can never experience anywhere else. It's sure to be a trip that will be deeply etched in your memory.
