Truly a masterpiece! The impressive "Sulfur Valley Garden Large Bath."
The 14 hot springs provide 14 million liters of natural hot spring water every day.
As soon as you step inside, you'll be overwhelmed by the impressive spaciousness. In the center is a large bathtub filled with lush green water. The water cascades down from a high spout like a waterfall, deafening. Surrounding the area are a row of gazebos housing various bathtubs. It's an experience so extraordinary it's almost out of the ordinary.
Kirishima Hotel's pride and joy, the "Iodani Garden Large Bath" is luxuriously flowing from 14 springs, with 14 million liters of hot spring water flowing out every day, which is the equivalent of 50 drums per minute. The spring water is "Iodani Onsen", a combination of sulfur, alum, saline, and iron springs, and can only be enjoyed at Kirishima Hotel. You can enjoy the true essence of a real hot spring in terms of both quality and quantity.
The facility is divided into three zones: free, men's only, and women's only. There are eight types of baths in the free zone. Sulfur springs are placed in the large bath, red pine bath, longevity bath and reclining bath, iron springs in the golden bath, and alum springs in the cypress bath and alum bath, allowing you to choose the effects you can enjoy. There are also times reserved for women only. The large bath with cascading water is just over 25m deep. With a depth of 1.4m, you can enjoy a standing bath that promotes blood circulation throughout the body. Relaxation Salon AO will open near the large bath in August 2024. It has excellent relaxation effects.
A women-only zone. Hime-yu is a bathhouse where you can enjoy a combination of salt springs, alum springs, sulfur springs, a cold bath, and a sauna, giving you the feeling of visiting different baths.
The women's zone has an open-air bath called "Akiko no Yu" named after the poet Yosano Akiko. You can also enjoy "Oryo no Yu" named after the wife of Sakamoto Ryoma.
The attraction is the food
The rooms that allow you to relax in the baths are available in a variety of types, including the "Takachihokan" which offers a spacious and luxurious space for a quality time, the "East Wing" which has standard rooms all facing south, and the "West Wing" which is reasonably priced but close to the baths and breakfast venue. On the 6th and 7th floors of the East Wing, a modern Japanese twin room with twin beds in a space with Ryukyu tatami mats has been created and is gaining in popularity.
For dinner, you can enjoy a "local kaiseki" meal filled with the bounty of the mountains and seas of Kagoshima, the kingdom of food, including the hotel's original specialty "black pork shamo hotpot," melt-in-your-mouth black-haired wagyu steak, and sake sushi, a dish that has been passed down since the Edo period. Using local ingredients, the dishes are all exquisite, prepared using traditional cooking techniques that live on in Satsuma. Bespoke dishes such as satsumaage, tonkotsu stew, silver-striped herring served as sashimi with vinegared miso, and abalone steak are also perfect accompaniments to potato shochu.
From the dining venue, "Kirishimakan," you can see the "Kirishima Measa Cedars," which are over 100 years old and grow in clusters in the 100-year-old Cedar Garden, which the hotel has been carefully protecting for the past 140 years. At night, the trees are lit up, creating a fantastic atmosphere for your gourmet meal.
Inside the museum, there is a section on the history of Kirishima, which is related to Ryoma Sakamoto, so there is no end to interest. Why not take an early morning stroll to view the divine 100-year-old cedars while feeling the fresh air of the Kirishima Plateau? You are sure to get some power from the 100-year-old cedars.
The hotel's original specialty is the black pork shamo hotpot. It is said that the late Edo period hero, Sakamoto Ryoma, also ate it when he stayed at the hotel in 1866.
