The attractions are the sea, hot springs, land, and food.
Enjoy a relaxing trip to the birthplace of modern Japanese art.
It was a place beloved by the pioneers who nurtured modern Japanese art, and the model for the pine trees, sunrises and moon that Yokoyama Taikan loved to paint was the Goura Coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean. With the red-roofed Rokkakudo, where Okakura Tenshin is said to have been lost in contemplation, below, it still conveys the image of the birthplace of modern Japanese art.
The Izura Kanko Hotel is an inn that has exclusive access to the scenic beauty and history of the area, offering a relaxing stay surrounded by the sea and hot springs.
The "Bekkann Taikanso" is a place where you can enjoy a view of the vast Pacific Ocean. The most popular rooms are the Japanese-Western style room facing the ocean, which has a spacious living room with a bed and a Japanese-style room (8 to 10 tatami mats), and the Japanese-style room facing the ocean. This space can be used by families and groups.
The adjacent special room in the Yokoyama Taikan residence was used as Taikan's studio and home. Equipped with five rooms overflowing with Japanese charm, a cypress bath and a private open-air bath in the garden, the entire building can be rented for private use. Art materials and furnishings related to Taikan are on display within the residence, allowing visitors to reminisce about the artist's past in the space he loved to spend his time in. It is perfect for art lovers, three-generation trips, and get-togethers between close friends.
At the "Bekkan Taikanso" you can enjoy an open-air bath with a natural hot spring overlooking the sea. Fishing fires floating in the sunset and the glow of the sea shining in the morning sun... These colors are a sight that was loved by the pioneers of modern art.
A special room adjacent to the Taikanso, the "Former Residence of Yokoyama Taikan." The entire building can be rented out for private use. A large space with a living room of 12 tatami mats + 8 tatami mats + 8 tatami mats, a studio of 10 tatami mats + 8 tatami mats, a cypress bath, and a private open-air bath. Can be used by one person.
The attraction is the food
Goura is blessed with fresh seafood such as abalone, rock oysters, and the new Ibaraki brand "Hitachi no Kuni Ise shrimp" landed at the city's Otsu and Hiragata fishing ports. For dinner, there are meal plans available that allow you to taste the deliciousness of the season, such as "crab gourmet," "abalone gourmet," and "monkfish gourmet," depending on the season, so you can enjoy extremely fresh fish dishes whenever you visit.
An especially popular dish is the monkfish hotpot, which is served from October to the end of March. The hotpot, which combines the rich, fatty liver of the monkfish with the miso, is addictive. There is nothing as delicious as eating monkfish in its native land. If you make a reservation in advance, you can also enjoy the specialty "dobushiru" soup, which is made by cooking monkfish with the seven tools of the monkfish and seasoning it with miso to make it rich.
The long-established restaurant's flavor, which is the result of the head chef's skill, has also started to be sold online, allowing you to enjoy freshly caught monkfish and rich broth flavored with ankimo miso in the comfort of your own home.
After relaxing in a relaxing space overlooking the sea, enjoying the hot springs that flow directly from the source, and savoring the local delicacies that can only be found at this long-established restaurant, be sure to take in the spectacular views of Goura. This inn offers ocean views from both sides of the building. The horizon stretches out into the distance, and below you can see the varied coves, white waves crashing against oddly shaped rocks, and old pine trees... The beauty of the sunrises and moonrises at Goura, as depicted by Taikan, is breathtaking, and touches your heart like a painting.
