The only lodging in the World Heritage Site, Hagi Castle Town.
Enjoy a superb stay at Kitamon Stay, where Japanese and Western styles blend together.
The Hokumon Yashiki stands on the site of the Yoshiki Mori family residence, a branch of the Mori clan, in Hagi Castle Sannomaru, where the senior vassals who defended the castle once lived, within Hagi Castle, which was the Mori clan's castle's former residence.
This is the only inn located within the World Heritage Site "Hagi Castle Town." Once you pass through the front gate, reminiscent of a samurai residence, you will enter a different world filled with flowers and Western splendor. Just as Hagi's ancestors studied the West with a Japanese spirit, this inn creates a romantic Western elegance with the hospitality of a ryokan. An extraordinary experience in which Japanese relaxation and Western splendor are fused together. The inn calls this style of travel "Hokumon Stay."
The texture of the walls, the grain of the pillars, and the feel of the floors all feature Japanese style and modern design in the VIP rooms with open-air hot spring baths, special Japanese suites made from keyaki wood, Japanese modern guest rooms, and premium Japanese-Western rooms. In 2023, three new types of guest rooms with garden views will be launched.
The West Wing has four 50m2 "Premium Japanese-Western Rooms" facing the Japanese garden with a waterfall view. The New Wing has four 35m2 "Japanese-Western Rooms" overlooking the main Japanese garden unique to this historical area, and four 35m2 "Open-air Guest Rooms with Garden" with a private Japanese garden surrounded by samurai-style stone and earthen walls. All rooms are equipped with original design sofas.
Nanen "Open-air Suite." Relax in the open-air hot spring bath or on the terrace while looking out at the private garden.
The attraction is the food
The hot springs are also a time of beautiful garden views. The large bath, called "Hana Meguri no Yu," offers a view of the seasonal colors of the plants through a sunroom-like glass window. "Shirakabe no Yu" overlooks the historical scenery surrounded by the white walls of the Mori family mansion. Each bath has two open-air baths, inviting you to a time of bliss.
The food is also a delight, adding a touch of color to your stay. Surrounded by the sea and the mountains, Hagi is rich in fresh produce from the Sea of Japan, such as tilefish in spring, horse mackerel, sea urchin, abalone, and pufferfish in winter, as well as the brand Mutsumi pork and Nagahagi wagyu beef.
The inn serves up delicious cuisine that makes the most of the seasonal produce, and the quality and quantity of the food is overwhelming.
During your stay, be sure to take a stroll around Hagi Castle Town, reminiscing about the Meiji Restoration. You can walk around the castle town with an old Edo map in hand. The hotel is also clearly marked on the map.
Surrounded by the sea on three sides, Yamaguchi offers seasonal local fish, Hagi's brand beef "Nagahagi Wagyu", and other carefully selected ingredients, all carefully prepared to make a banquet. Be sure to also try the king of Yamaguchi's flavors, "Fugu".
