A new proposal from a long-established inn with over 300 years of history.
We have created guest rooms with natural hot spring water that give you a vivid sense of Yamagata and Shonai.
Located in Atsumi Onsen, which has a history of over 1,200 years , Bankokuya, which has been offering hospitality for over 300 years, has created guest rooms that offer a new accommodation experience.
The first of these, four guest rooms with open-air baths with natural hot spring water, were opened in 2021. These rooms offer a nostalgic atmosphere where you can enjoy the rich hot spring water in a ceramic bath made by Oishida ware "Tsuginogogama", which is based on the four seasons and scenic spots of Yamagata.
Next, two rooms, including one with an open-air bath, were renovated in December 2024, transforming them into a space where guests can enjoy views of the countryside and the abundant hot spring water straight from the source.
Each guest room has a concept based on the theme of "Yamagata Shonai Sea" that changes with the seasons, and an open-air ceramic bath by "Tsuginogogama" is installed to match the concept. For example, the sea seen from Mt. Gassan and Mt. Chokai, the sun setting over the Sea of Japan and Shonai Beach, etc., create an attractive space that evokes the beautiful landscapes and rural scenery of Yamagata.
The concept of Bankokuya is "Discovery Shonai." Along with the three suites on the top floor with outdoor baths that have natural hot spring water and the outdoor baths that allow you to feel like you are surrounded by nature, the guest rooms that allow you to experience the atmosphere of Yamagata and Shonai are sure to become the standard in the future.
This guest room with an open-air bath with natural hot spring water was opened in December 2024. It is equipped with a ceramic bath made by Oishida ware's "Tsugiyoshigama" with the concept of "the sea seen from Mt. Gassan and Mt. Chokai."
The guest rooms feature an open-air bath with natural hot spring water and a ceramic bath made by Togoshigama, based on the concept of "the sea and sea breeze of Shonai."
The attraction is the food
The theme of the meals is "Rakuzan Rakusui," which allows you to enjoy seasonal ingredients from the seas, mountains, and rivers of Yamagata. In addition to the "Bankokuya Seasonal Kaiseki," you can choose from the "Taste Comparison Kaiseki of Premium Steamed Yamagata Beef and Live Abalone," and the "Bankokuya Gourmet Kaiseki," which offers a luxurious mix of seasonal special ingredients such as crab, Yamagata beef, and abalone. For breakfast, the "Taimeshi Breakfast," which uses a generous amount of locally caught red sea bream and is delicious in three ways, is very popular. This inn has long been renowned for the deliciousness of its breakfasts, and it is no wonder.
An example of the Bankokuya most popular seasonal course meal, Bankokuya, which is a feast for the eyes and the palate.
The large baths "Rakuzan" and "Rakusui" are alternately for men and women, and are a great way to enjoy the hot springs that were enjoyed by writers and artists such as Basho and Yosano Akiko. The indoor bath at Rakuzan is equipped with a silk bath that creates beautiful skin, and you can expect a double effect from the beneficial spring water. Rakusui is a bathhouse so large that you will want to swim in it.
The garden open-air baths, "Sakura no Yu" and "Sato no Yu," are especially popular at dusk. You can enjoy the famous hot springs that have been loved throughout the ages along with the seasonal atmosphere. "Sakura no Yu," which was renovated in 2023, also features a new "barrel sauna" that originated in Finland, where you can enjoy a comfortable experience with self-loyly.
A long-established inn with attentive hospitality. The impression remained even after the guest returned home. Whether it be the historic hot springs, the rooms that give a sense of Shonai, or the exquisite cuisine, Japanese inns are truly great.
The large public bath and open-air garden bath are some of the largest in the Shonai area. You can enjoy the natural hot spring water of this historic hot spring, which has been visited by many literary figures and artists.
